Why we use CrossFit as our training methodology

“Our understanding is that the needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind. One needs functional competence to stay out of a nursing home. The other wants functional dominance to win medals” ~Greg Glassman, CrossFit Founder

All fitness levels welcome.

  • CrossFit is not for everyone, but it's for anyone!

CrossFit is an all inclusive community that blends all walks of life, fitness levels, and ages.

  • How is SSC different than other gyms in town?

We here at Steamboat Strength and Conditioning offer customized personal training in a group setting at group rates. Because of this, our class sizes are small so we can onboard you along side more experienced athletes exposing you to the movements we do, explain the why behind the program, and demystify nutrition.

  • What is CrossFit?

By definition it is constantly varied, functional movements, done at relatively high intensity. To simplify we do a bunch of different workouts, comprised of simple body weight and free weight movements, while pushing ourselves as hard as we can that day.

  • What makes us different then everyone else?

Aside from the fact that EVERY day you workout with us we do something completely different, you always have a coach to guide you, push you and keep you safe. We discuss nutrition and mindset on a regular basis and guide you to your full potential inside and outside of the gym.

  • I hear CrossFit is like a cult?

We are a community of  moms, dads, brothers, sisters, daughters and sons. We come together to work hard in the gym to be ready to do the things we love outside of the gym. CrossFit is like nothing else out there. It is unique not only in its ability to evoke changes in all aspects of your health but all aspects of your life.  As a community we support, inspire  and believe in one another sometimes more than we believe in ourselves. If that’s a cult then yep, we are.

  • How do I know if I am ready and in enough shape to start?

Anyone is ready no matter what their fitness level. All of our movements can be tailored to your abilities. Remember personal training in a group setting so it is ALL ABOUT YOU!

  • What if I have an injury or a disability?

We are sorry to hear that but not a problem. The beauty of CrossFit is it can be adjusted or modified to fit anyone’s needs. We can come up with a plan on how to accommodate any injury or disability. In fact we have a program called WODWORKS that is specific to injuries.

  • What do I wear and how do I prepare for class?

Drink plenty of water and have a little snack an 1.5 hours before class if possible (unless you are working out early in the morning). Wear clothes and sneakers that are comfortable to move in.

  • I’ve heard CrossFit is dangerous, is it?

CrossFit by nature is not dangerous. CrossFit encompasses a variety of different movements and stimulus’ that will push you outside of your comfort zone. That said, these movements are a part of our training methodology because they mimic movements we see in our every day life. With the help and guidance of our highly trained coaches, these movements will SERVE you, not hurt you. The more we prepare to be in unfamiliar positions, pick up things off the ground, and carry our kids around- the more opportunity we have to do these things safely in life.
